7x9 Demonstration
One of SAPR's annual events, the 7x9 Demonstration of Solitary Confinement focuses on educating Northeastern students on the reality of solitary in the United States.
What is 7x9?
7x9 is an annual public demonstration organized by SAPR
SAPR creates a 7 foot by 9 foot space on campus - the average size of a solitary confinement cell - to showcase the inhumane approach to discipline used by the American justice system. Students are often shocked to find that this area is smaller than a parking space. Students are encouraged to step inside and try to imagine life in this space.
Members of SAPR make posters and other materials for this demonstration, including the shocking and ridiculous reasons why people are sent to solitary confinement. We also provide additional educational resources on this topic and CTA's for students.
